If you were a victim of identity theft and sent the IRS an Identity Theft Affidavit - Form 14039, it's taking longer than usual for them to be processed because their identity theft inventories increased due to the pandemic. It usually takes 120 days, and now it's taking around 250 days to resolve identity theft cases.
You will receive notification that your case has been resolved. The IRS is working on getting the timeframe back down to 120 days or less as they note on their IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue website page.
You'll be notified when your case is resolved.
