Electronic Filing Mandate for Form 990-EZ
While the Taxpayer First Act, enacted July 1, 2019, required tax-exempt organizations to electronically file information returns and related forms became effective for tax years beginning after July 1, 2019, small exempt organizations were specifically allowed a postponement "transitional relief" and could file Form 990-EZ, Short Form Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax either electronically or on paper for tax years ending before July 31, 2021.
Form 990-EZ must be filed electronically starting with tax years ending July 31, 2021.
Organizations that filed paper Forms 990-EZ previously will be receive Letter 6194 from the IRS. This is an educational letter; that doesn't need a response.
