U.S. consumer prices increased 0.4% in September from August as the cost of new vehicles, food, gas, and dining out all rose, and inflation climbed 5.4% from a year ago, the largest increase since 2008, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.
Gas rose 1.2%, bringing the annual increase to 42.1%. Energy index increased 1.3%, rising 24.8 % over the last 12 months.
Airline fares, apparel, and used cars and trucks all declined in September.
