Evernote is software designed for notetaking and archiving that can be used as a web, desktop, or mobile application, accessible from multiple devices. It's primary strength is note-taking features and organization. A note can be pieces of formatted text, a full webpage or excerpt, a photograph, a voice memo, or even a handwritten note that's scanned in. Notes can also have file attachments.
Evernote organizes your notes into individual files called Notes by default. You can sort them into themed Notebooks, which can later be combined to create Notebook Stacks. Notes can be tagged, annotated, edited, given comments, and searched.
