More and more people are trading their 9-to-5 routines for self-employment and remote work, but how tax deductions work with this way of life isn't always clear. Can you itemize your miles, movers and storage units?

To save at tax time, writes Forbes contributor Janet Berry-Johnson, you'll need to stay in your new city for two years while working full-time.
